Is it time to join us?

by superadmin on 25 May, 2012

Over the weekend, and the following weeks I hope to be getting out and meeting people, both in this area and further afield helping our Tunbridge Wells branch with their by-election (June 17th).

I tentatively ask the question, on the doorstep – you have voted for us, would you like to do more?… Would you, perhaps, consider joining the Party? This often meets with reticence and mistrust. Much of this stems from misunderstanding fostered by the media and by the Tories – you have to be very very clever, or very powerful in some way, to merit being part of some ‘elite’. As a Liberal Democrat, I know this is nonsense. Anyone can (and, I believe, should) be a member of whatever political party they believe in, and as a member of the Lib Dems, especially now, you would have an amazing amount of power. Government might be hard, and we might not like all the things that happen, but every member can have a say – so, so could you.

It is the members of the Liberal Democrats who decide policy, locally, regionally & nationally. If members want changes they can make changes even, as we are now in Government, to government policy. Members are kept informed, through emails from Ministers, MPs and Peers, key regional spokespeople and the local party. Just as local Lib Dems keep everyone informed through regular Focuses, so being a member allows access to so much more  information.

At a time when the country can no longer afford to solve everything from Whitehall, when Media barons (I am thinking of Murdoch) can crumble and take Tories with them, under the glaring light of Levenson, getting involved, finding out what is really going on and making your own voice heard, has never been so important or potentially powerful. And it is easy to do. Just click on the link on the right of this page and join the Liberal Democrats.
